MICROS 2700 DIAGNOSTICS
INITIALIZE COMMS TO REMOTE DEVICES
Power
outages and or surges can result in the Micros terminal “dropping”
communications with remote devices. Micros 2000 series terminals may use a
Communications Interface Board (CIB) to communicate to remote devices such as
printers and video screens. Periodically you may have to perform the following
function after losing communications with any remote devices.
-
Insert Mgr key into key lock and turn clockwise.
-
Power off Micros terminal (lower right back corner if you’re facing it)
-
While holding down the ENTER key, power the terminal back on.
This puts you into
DIAGNOSTICS
-
Move your cursor to “COMMS” and press ENTER
-
Move your cursor to “OPTION BOARD” and press ENTER
-
Press ENTER to select “OPTION BOARD A”. Slot “A” is the most likely location
for the CIB Board, it could however be in slot “B”, if the terminal displays
“not installed” try the other location. If both display “not installed” then
you are not at the terminal that has the CIB board

The
Micros terminal will now start to scan for remote printers that are connected to
the unit you are testing. A series of numbers will begin to appear on the upper
screen, 1,2,3 etc.. the terminal is looking for printers. If the terminal finds
a printer the printers version will appear IE V1.05, V1.20, V2.0 etc. If the
terminal displays a printers version number that means that there is a physical
connection between the printer and the Micros terminal, if you see a row of
asterisk *******, that means that there is no printer found.
If you
have one kitchen printer and there are no version #’s on the screen, (it’s all
asterisks), you should check your connections at the printer. When trouble
shooting comm. problems ALWAYS disconnect and reconnect. (this somehow
solves many comm problems). If you do see the printers version #, you just may
have solved your problem. Do a ”System Reset” to escape diagnostics.
HOW TO GET OUT OF
DIAGNOSTICS
Perform
a “System Reset”. Once you’ve determined whether you have a physical connection
to the printers you’re testing, power off the Micros terminal (assuming the Mgr
key is still inserted and turned clockwise), hold down the CLEAR key, and power
on. “System Reset” will appear on the upper screen. Update comms status to
ensure all terminals are communicating.
** IMPORTANT **
When
you put a Micros terminal into Diagnostics, it can NOT communicate with
any other terminal on the network, so the system will slow down as you perform
this task so do it quickly. You can be in and out of diagnostics in 40 seconds.
After exiting diagnostics it’s always a good habit to perform Mgr Procedure #12
(Comms Status) to be sure all terminals are communicating. Touchscreen users can
go to “Procedures”, in the upper right hand corner of the touchscreen you’ll see
“COMMS STATUS”. Press that, make sure all terminals are active (1) and then
press “SAVE CHANGES”. If the terminal returns to the Mgr screen your terminals
are communicating.
