MICROS 2700 “SYSTEM RESET”

The “System Reset” procedure is a very valuable tool for the Micros 2700 user.  It will reduce downtime, possibly prevent a service call and reduce the service inefficiencies involved when the Micros terminals are not working properly.  The system reset procedure will do no harm if performed on a register that is working properly so there is no need to fear that performing a system reset will cause a problem.  However, a system reset can in very rare cases make an existing condition or problem worse.  The system reset procedure (unlike its name indicates) does NOT reset any sales totals in the terminal.  The Micros 2700 “System Reset” is basically the same function you perform if your home or office computer locks up, you “reboot it”. The Micros “reboot” procedure however is called “System Reset”.  “System Reset” simply means you are resetting the voltages in the register.

There are a multitude of reasons to perform this procedure.  The best thing you can understand about the “system reset” procedure is that you should use any time you feel the register is having some kind of mechanical problem that can be diagnosed by simply observing the register. You will reduce downtime if you perform a “System Reset” before calling for emergency service.

Here’s a short list of problems you might solve using the “system reset” procedure.

> terminal appears to be locked up

> magnetic card reader not working

> operator screen is flashing on & off

> printer printing small (Integrated Roll Printer Only)

> printer not working properly, won’t feed paper (Integrated Roll Printer Only)

> touch screen not responding

> keyboard not responding

To perform a “System Reset”

  1. Insert Mgr key into the Key lock and turn clockwise.
  2. Power off Micros terminal.
  3. While holding down the [CLEAR] key, power on the Micros terminal.

The Micros terminal will now display “SYSTEM RESET”, press [CLEAR] to continue.

NOTE: If the Micros terminal displays “Power Outage”, either the key is not turned clockwise OR the [CLEAR] key was not held down, repeat above steps, you must see “SYSTEM RESET” on the display.

The “System Reset” procedure will NOT solve communications problems by itself; however it may solve the current condition that prevents the terminals from communicating with each other. Always update the “Comms Status” after performing a “System Reset” to ensure all micros terminals are communicating.
