Text Box: Note: MAP characters are programmed in the System Overhead Parameters file with the special code shown. A maximum of six may be programmed. A MAP character replaces a standard alpha code character for display and printing only. If you import any names or descriptors to the database that use a MAP character, the imported field in the database must contain the alpha code character, not the MAP character.

Example: Assume a certain name field should display and print as “BLÜCHER.” It will display properly if the MAP character code for “Ü” (9A) is entered in the System Parameters file and linked to an alpha code character allowed as a substitute, “!” for example.

In this case, “BLÜCHER.” Would be the value exported from the name field. Name and descriptor fields that should display with MAP characters must be coordinated with the values in the MAP character fields in the System Parameters file.
