White Management, the owners of Creo, a new restaurant concept that is replacing the former Mangia's at Stuyvesant Plaza will be installing the Digital Dining POS system when the restaurant construction project is completed in September.

White Management President David White and Vice-President Mark Burgasser have joined in a partnership with Executive Chef Andrew Plummer and General Manager Paul McCullough (both formerly of McGuire's on Lark Street).

The new building will be 6,000 square feet and built with environmentally friendly products and techniques to meet U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards. For instance; the roof will be organic grass, the floors, table tops, and bartops will be comprised of recycled materials. For local restaurants, this represents a new and exciting approach to restaurant construction. The new Creo will seat 144 and have outdoor seating for 24.

The Digital Dining POS system will consist of four traditional 15" LCD Touchscreens, eight Symbol Handheld ordering units, and four QSR Automations kitchen display video terminals. This is White Managements first exploration into handheld ordering, Pay at the Table, and kitchen video displays. The Symbol Handheld units will allow servers to process food & drink orders while remaining at the guests table. This streamlines food & beverage ordering and speeds up the payment process. Handheld ordering eliminates having servers leave the table and/or dining room only to enter the guests order a second time into a traditional touchscreen terminal. Drinks and food arrive at the table faster mainly because the order is placed earlier. Restaurants that use handheld ordering can expect an increase in table turns due to faster turnover. Handheld ordering also allows servers to be instantly notified of 86'd menu items with suggestive alternatives while at the guests table thus improving the dining experience. Pay at the Table is gaining popularity due to increased awareness of credit card fraud, diners feel more comfortable when their credit card never leaves their sight.

QSR's kitchen display system replaces the traditional use of printers for product requisition. Creo will be using product timers that will help insure that all menu items for each order arrive in the window simultaneously. QSR & Digital Dining's powerful reporting engines will allow Creo owners to analyze whether or not food & drinks are being produced in a timely fashion. This information is not obtainable when traditional kitchen printers are used.

"The kitchen video concept is pretty new for the independents although the chains have been using it for years. We know we will get resistance from kitchen managers and chefs that have used printers for the last 20 years, but eventually kitchen video will be the norm because it absolutely improves service and reduces labor costs. White Management realizes this aspect in their new POS. A product that improves service and decreases labor costs is an investment, not an expense." Bob Howard

Creo is planning to open in September/October of 2008
